Putting God First
Putting God first is important if you want to live for Him.
Putting God first is essential in the life of a believer.
When we start to think we can stand against life’s troubles and the devil’s snares on our own, we are in trouble.
Instead, we must trust in the Lord and his promises and actions in His Word. When we learn to put God first and rely completely on Him, we will see our lives begin to change.
Just as Jesus and the heroes of the faith in the Bible can attest, deliberately putting God first will always result in victory. Even when things seemed hopeless or God made strange requests, those who were strong in their faith kept God at the center of their lives, and so should we.
Here, you’ll learn how to keep God first and live the blessed life He intended for you!
Introduction
Every believer will face obstacles as they serve the Lord, and these obstacles may give them many reasons to want to give up serving him. However, if they want to be successful as they serve the Lord, then they must be deliberate about putting God first in their lives. Believers can sometimes let down their guard, but God expects them to always be alert and give him the opportunity to work on their behalf.
As Jesus was teaching the disciples, he taught them many important things. One of these lessons was that if they put God first in their lives, all other things will be added to them. There is evidence of many persons in the Bible and in today’s society who have put God first in their lives and become victorious. God wants all believers to follow the same example of putting him first in their lives. The Christian walk is never free from problems, but God will defend his children.
There are times when God will ask his children to do things that seem strange to them, but God often does this in order to prove himself to his children and show that he will bless them. When God asked Abraham to sacrifice his only son, it was a hard request for Abraham, but God had a blessing in store for him. In the case of Hannah, God was willing to change her life because she put him first.
Romans 11:33
33 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!
Can you imagine God sending you to a widow for help? Well, God sent Elijah to a widow for help, and on top of that, Elijah asked her to give him a portion of the meal first and then feed herself and her son thereafter. She obeyed the servant of God, and God blessed her greatly because she put him first.
A king was told that he was going to die. This king did not want to die, but rather to live. The king pleaded his cause before his God, and God gave more years to him. There is no telling of what God can do when persons place him first in their lives.
King Solomon was known as the wisest man of his time. This became possible because Solomon asked God for the tools to lead the people. God loved Solomon’s unselfish request and gave him more than he asked for.
Mordecai and Queen Esther had a great battle on their hands to deal with, but they knew that their battle was small in the hands of God. They prayed and fasted, and God blessed the Jews because Mordecai and Esther put him first in their lives. Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego proved their God as they were not going to be subjected to the king’s evil request. Their God delivered them, and they were promoted.
It would be difficult for a few loaves and fishes to feed many persons, but Jesus placed those items in the hands of God and many lives were fed. Paul and Silas experienced many challenges as they served God, but their God came through for them because they placed him first in their lives.

To successfully serve the Lord, believers must put Him first in their lives. They must stay alert and trust God to work on their behalf. Just as Jesus and many heroes of the faith in the Bible showed, putting God first will mean that all our needs will be met and we will be victorious. If we trust God’s plan for our lives and continue to grow in our knowledge of the word, through prayer, worship, and fellowship, we will reap the fruit of our labor and live blessed lives.
